Aida T. Figueroa passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 at the age of 96.  She was born Aug. 31, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to Capt. John Trossi and Maria Trossi Orlandi, who moved their family back to their native Puerto Rico when Aida was just a month old.  She was the second of eleven children, and from early on, showed a fiercely independent spirit.  After high school graduation, at the age of 18, in the middle of WWII, she traveled alone on a troop transport ship  to New York and then to Iowa by train to study at the University of Dubuque, graduating in 1947 with degrees in English and religious education.

She returned to Puerto Rico and began a long career as a high school teacher.  In 1948, she married the love of her life, Hector Figueroa, and together they raised two sons.  Aida was an accomplished self taught musician, who loved to sing and play piano, organ, and accordion.  She also enjoyed sewing and knitting.  In 1975, she and Hector retired to Florida, where they made many close friendships and were involved in numerous social activities.  They also enjoyed traveling all across the United States, several countries in Europe as well as China.  Their favorite trips were to Texas to visit their children and grandchildren.  In 2006, they moved to New Braunfels to be closer to their sons, and in 2007, made Eden Hill their final home.  Aida's devotion to faith and family is her lasting legacy.

Aida is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Hector; her parents John and Maria; her older son Johnny; three sisters and one brother.  She is survived by her son Eddie Figueroa and wife Michele;  daughter-in-law Kella Figueroa; granddaughter Morgan Figueroa; grandson Justin Figueroa and wife Sara; great granddaughter Marisol Figueroa; four sisters, two brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Aida will be held Monday, November 2, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home Chapel in New Braunfels, followed by burial at Fort Sam Houston alongside Hector.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or Hope Hospice in New Braunfels.
