Alan James "Buddy" Henderson Jr. was born Nov. 28,1947 in Houston, TX to Alan James Henderson Sr. and Bonnie Hailey Henderson.  He passed away in MDAnderson, Houston on Feb. 10, 2022 at the age of 74.  Over the past three years he fought and beat a very rare form of cancer and never lost his focus on God and his loving wife and children.  He spent his last day surrounded by his wife, Sue and his children and an entire army of family and friends singing hymns and sharing their love through an IPad due to visitation restrictions at the hospital.

He graduated from Permian High School in Odessa in 1966 and then became a proud member of the Texas A&M Fighting Aggies , Class of '70.  While attending A&M, he married his first wife, Joyce. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he spent the next 23 years. He and Joyce traveled the country and raised a loving family.  His job was every young man's dream…watching over a nuclear missile silo and launching rockets!  After retirement, he began a new career with Texas Conservation Resource Commission as an environmental engineer. Shortly after Joyce died , he retired once again and the Lord led him to Kenya with Open Door Kenya, helping with orphanages, schools and saving souls.  Throughout his life he has touched souls all over the world, spreading his love for the Lord and sharing hope for an eternal life.  He continued his work with Open Door Kenya and was serving on the Board at the time of his death.  After living in Kenya for 2 years , he returned to the US and moved to the small town of Carrizozo, NM, obviously all part of God's plan.  Here  in this small community, he met and married in Nov. 2018, his soulmate, Sue.  When he was diagnosed with cancer, they began their transition of moving back to Texas. They built a new home and this past Christmas opened the doors to both families for Christmas at the Henderson's 2022!

He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, two sons Kyle(Becki) of Albuquerque, NM, Seth of Austin, two daughters, Kristina Adams(Chris) of Austin, Melissa Moran(Jacob) of Leander.  Grandchildren: Elijah, Ezekiel, Tristan and Madison. Two sisters,Kay Hamilton(Ronnie) of Fredericksburg and Christi Wendt(Paul) of Galveston. His stepdaughters whom he loved as his own, Michele Barrett (Brad), Melissa Faifer(Richard Shandy), Kimberly Purdy(Chris) and 5 grandchildren, Ethan, Paige, Layla, Addison and Brylan and a host of "family friends" around the world!

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife , Joyce, daughter, Kimberly and brother, Wayne.

A Celebration of Life and Homegoing will be held at First Baptist Church of Canyon Lake on March 19,2022 at 1 o'clock pm.  In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Open Door Kenya at opendoorKenya.org
