Obituary

Albert Lenson "Lenny" Smith, son of Mary Lou Belcher (Garcia) & Rayburn Belcher was born on September 6, 1965, in Jackson, Mississippi.  He passed from this life on August 7, 2023, in Live Oak, Texas at the age of 57.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Belcher; sister, Sharon Springer, and brother-in-law, Mark Baldon.

Lenny is survived by his loving wife, Amy S. Smith of San Antonio; father, Rayburn Belcher; son, Albert Lenson Smith IV; daughter, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Smith; grandsons, Austen Phoenix Smith, David Wayne Schindler and Oliver Blaine Schindler; sisters, Deborah L. Solis, Joyce E. Mejia, Peggy S. Heimann & husband, Kurt, Ingeborg M. Bennett and Mary Audrey Baldon; brother-in-law, Darnell Springer; step-daughters, Brittany Allen & husband, Kertis and Tiffany Scharnhorst & husband, Tyler; step-son, Aaron Bednarz; step-granddaughter, Madison Scharnhorst and many other additional relatives & friends.

Lenny attended Roosevelt High School and went on to earn his GED before joining the Navy in 1985. He served as a submariner until 1989, and then was a part of the Navy Reserves until 1995. His skill for mechanics led him to work as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic for many years. His passion for brotherhood and service inspired him to join the Masons. He was a Master Mason, earned the rank of Shriner in 2018, and was a member of the Burning Sun Shrine Go Kart Unit. Lenny treasured spending time with those he loved; he enjoyed traveling, dancing, fishing, family dinners, and long conversations with old friends. He could often be found relaxing on the porch or enjoying the pool on a warm day. His loud laugh, big personality, and caring heart will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.



A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Wednesday, August 16, 2023,

at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, 189 N. Seguin Ave., New Braunfels, Texas 78130

An additional service, with Military Honors, Masonic and Shriner Honors, will be held that same afternoon

at 2:45 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery

A reception will follow at the Converse American Legion Hall, 326 Legion Drive W, Converse, Texas 78109.



In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Children's Texas in Lenny's honor.
