Alvin "Al" James Cunningham was born to on October 28, 1943, in Fall River, Massachusetts.

He passed from this life on May 5, 2026, in Round Rock, Texas, but his home was in Georgetown, Texas. He was a resident of New Braunfels, Texas, for many years.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Oscar Cunningham (passed May, 1955) and Bertha E. (Carter) Cunningham (passed 1996).

He has three children from previous marriages who survive him: Son Richard Allen and his wife Victoria, living in Red Oak, Iowa, daughters Cynthia Ann (Cunningham) Autin and her husband Michael, living in San Leandro, CA and Mica Joie (Cunningham) Sosa and her husband Pete and their son Mateo, living in Phoenix, Arizona.

Al is survived by his wife Jane (Moseley) Cunningham, his three stepsons, Mark, Paul and Don Goodner, 7 step- grandchildren. He has numerous cousins living in Massachusetts, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Texas.

He graduated from Marshfield, MA High school. Al held graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering as well as Journalism and Broadcast Journalism.

Al joined the United States Air Force (USAF), September 1961, and served in the USAF Air Police, American Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS), and various other assignments throughout the world. Al spent the majority of his Air Force career outside the United States living mostly in Athens, Greece; Tokyo,  Japan; and Berlin, Germany. He is a Vietnam veteran, serving on many temporary tours throughout Vietnam, Thailand and other countries.

Upon retirement from the Air Force, Al was employed by Tandy Corporation. He was subsequently employed by the US Navy Air Systems Command as a Director of Engineering. He also was employed by MG West in San Francisco, CA, and the Boy Scouts of America. Prior to retirement, Al was a District Manager for Auto Zone in Massachusetts.

He was an ardent volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for 72 years and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver, District Award of Merit, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor and numerous other scouting awards. He jokingly called his dress uniform his "General Noriega" uniform.

Al was also a Master Mason and a Thirty Second-Degree member of the Scottish Rite. He grew up in Massachusetts as a member of the Catholic Church and went to parochial school until high school. In Texas after he met his wife Jane, he became an active member of the First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels, serving in several administrative committees and as a faithful and technology director for many years of the Foundation Bible Class. After moving to Sun City, Georgetown, Al and Jane became active in The Worship Place ministry. Al loves the Lord.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM (with military honors) on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas.   He will be laid to rest at a later date at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
