Augustine Vargas, Jr., 80, of Victoria, Texas passed away on April 22, 2026. He was born February 15, 1946, in New Braunfels, Texas to Agustin and Elvira (Bernal) Vargas.

Augustine, or as he was known by "Augie" had a career in aviation as a helicopter mechanic for over 30 years. Augie spent a great deal of his time along with his family working and residing overseas in Saudi Arabia. He retired from Saudi Aramco at age 60, and moved to Texas before fully retiring in Victoria, TX. Augie enjoyed spending time with his family, catching up with old friends, listening to Tejano music, and was often telling stories about his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings; Adelfa Hardin, Victor Vargas, Sr., and Loretta Hinojosa.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lan; sons, Jason Vargas and Michael Vargas, and daughter, Kristin Echols and husband, Ross; grandchildren, Christian, Isaac, Parker, and Kenzie; nephews, Bryan Vargas, Chris Vargas, Victor Vargas, Jr., and Mark Hinojosa.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. A Rosary Service will follow the visitation at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday April 30, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in New Braunfels.
