Bennie Mae Young (Hood), age 89, of Spring Branch, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, May 27, 2022. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Kennedy of New Braunfels, Ben Young of San Antonio; Grandchildren, Brandy Saenz (James) of New Braunfels, Shane Young (Katie) of Baltimore, Ohio, Kent Young (Brianne) of Ada, Ohio, and Shay Kennedy of New Braunfels; Sister, Faye Jean Johns of Spring Branch, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Kenyon Young of Corpus Christi; her parents Benjamin and Tommie Hood of Corpus Christi; her sister Mildred (Merty) Davis; and her sister Mary Jo Beal.

Bennie was born August 3, 1932, in Jacksonville, Texas. She was the youngest of four daughters, who all grew up in Corpus Christi, where she and her sisters loved wearing Levi's and playing pickup baseball games with the kids they grew up with. She was a 1949 graduate of Corpus Christi High School. Her fierce love of family began at an early age and would remain strong all the years of her life.

Bennie was a proud Texan thru and thru. She made a decision to follow her parents and sister to Arkansas when her father decided to start farming. This decision ultimately led her to meet the love of her life, fellow Texan, Charles Kenyon Young who was stationed at Ft. Smith in Van Buren, Arkansas. The two met at a dance and within three months were married on January 22, 1953, and according to Bennie "Got back to Texas as quick as we could!" Bennie and Charles made their home and raised their family in Corpus Christi.

Bennie was a determined woman, holding fast to her beliefs, defending the ones she loved, and always thanking her God for her many blessings. She often called her family the greatest of all her blessings. She was a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a sister and friend. She loved to play card games and nothing made her happier than when all the family was gathered together.

There will be a graveside service, Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415
