Bobby Monroe Collins, 70, of New Braunfels, passed away March 21, 2021.  He was born September 28, 1950 in Buffalo, New York and adopted by Jesse Clyde and Etta Laverne (Sims) Collins of Roswell, NM where his father owned and operated the grocery store, Collins Market.

In the early 1960's the military put in 14 missile launch sites in Roswell.  They were massive silos and included living quarters.  Requiring many people to build the silos, the population of Roswell doubled and infrastructure was built to support the increased population.  The base closed after it was no longer needed, with no jobs and increased utility bills and property taxes required to repay the infrastructure bonds, many people sold or walked away from their homes often without taking their belongings and leaving large parts of the town deserted.  Needing to relocate Bobby and his family moved to San Antonio where they had family.

In 1970 Bobby joined the Marine Corp and served in Vietnam.  After his honorable discharge he lived in Nevada & California before moving back to San Antonio.  He got a job at Capitol Cement where in 1977, he met his future wife Suzanne (Suzy) Timmerman.  He worked his way up getting a job as a lab technician and decided to make the cement industry his career.  While working full time Bobby continued his education receiving a degree in Applied Science from SWT (Texas State).  In 2011, he retired as Quality Control Manager of CEMEX in New Braunfels after 31 years of service.

Fathers' Day 2017, he received an Ancestry.com kit to discover his ethnicity.  His DNA also identified registered Ancestry.com family members that he was able to confirm as his adoption papers named his mother.  After reaching out to his new family, Bobby, Suzy, and their 2 children traveled to Buffalo, NY where they were welcomed with open arms and they continued to stay in touch up until his passing.

Bobby was a devoted husband and father and an avid outdoorsman. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jerri Collins Klotz.

He is survived by his wife Suzanne, son James (Kara) Collins, daughter Jillian Collins and fiancé Micah Nowell, brother Louis Collins, brother-in-law Bob Klotz, numerous nieces and nephews and family in Buffalo.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 9:45 AM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial be made in Bobby's honor to the charity of your choice, or your local food bank.
