Cassandra Ann "Cassie" Henderson
Jenkins Mourfield Lathe
October 19, 1917 – January 26, 2015



Cassie Lathe entered her heavenly home January 26, 2015 at the age of 97. The effects of a stroke eventually ended her life. She was born in Passapatanzy, VA to Gordon and Lucye Henderson. Her eternal reunion will include her parents, 3 brothers, 5 sisters, her grandson, a niece, 3 nephews, 3 husbands, and many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra Mourfield, her grandchildren, Eliza Northrup and Adam Goode, her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Owen Northrup and Paxton and Davis Goode, nieces, nephews, and all who have loved her ready smile through the years.

Her many accomplishments were due to her determination, stamina, inquisitiveness, beauty, and charisma which led her in numerous directions during her 97 years. Working as a bookkeeper for Buck O'Toole's Auto and Tire Co., Fredericksburg, VA and as a receptionist for a bank and loan, Washington, DC. She garnered business experience while taking classes at Mary Washington College. Cassie served as a file clerk for Pan American World Airways Personnel Dept. of Test Engineering for the Missile Range at Cocoa Beach, FL from 1958 to 1964. From 1965-70 she owned and operated her Tequesta, FL Merle Norman Cosmetics studio. Her part-time passion was being a newspaper correspondent and reporter in Virginia, Florida, and Texas. At the same time she continued her modeling prowess strengthening her connection to fashion and people.


Cassie's service associations included the Pilot Club of Canyon Lake, President 1975-76 and 1980-81, board member of Ty Preston Memorial Library, Church in the Valley, Friendship Circle, Republican Women of Canyon Lake, and
Village West Civic Association. She served as President of the Wild Flower Garden Club, Friendship Circle, Preceptor President of Iota Alpha of Beta Sigma Phi, and Director of the New Braunfels Community Fund. She enjoyed being Chairman for Style Shows, Mother/Daughter Banquets, and Christmas parties. Cassie was a committee member for the March of Dimes, Crop Walk,
Heritage Museum, Bible School, Friendship Circle, and many more. She served as a delegate and alternate for the Republican Women State Convention, as well as giving prayer and devotionals at general meetings. She was a member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) where she also presented meeting devotionals. She held various offices in many organizations and loved every minute. Even in her latter years she was the call team to obtain "greeters" for Church in the Valley monthly services.

As a volunteer, Cassie enjoyed her times at Oakcrest Nursing Home, Republican Voting stations, campaigning for her favorite politicians, Cancer drives, Blood Donor drives, Crop Walk, and the Heritage Museum. She loved learning to square dance and play bridge with her close friends, as well as, the CRRC Seniors Bridge Group. She was always ready to travel to new countries when ever a tour arose.

After all of these accomplishments, her greatest achievement was her marriage to Grant Lathe in 1970. The union they developed over 34 years consisted of his undivided love for Cassie just as God created her and, frankly, would follow her anywhere which he did all over the world. She loved him in the same manner while promoting, marketing, and admonishing his art, musical, and personable talents and gifts. They were a unit of fashionable enjoyment everywhere they went, and enjoyed each other immensely even when they were alone in their home beside the lake in Village West.

Cassie's "family" was the focus of her love. Whether it was immediate family or extended relatives or friends she loved life with them all. She cherished the love and security that blessed her as a child in a large family.

Our deep appreciation is extended to our Care Team at Hope Hospice of New Braunfels. Their comfort and care sustained Cassie and Cassandra through a year of constant change and decline. Memorial remembrances can be made to Hope Hospice or the charity of your choice to commemorate this bright life. Also, Cassie's family would like to thank family and friends for your love, prayers, and support over the years. God Bless you all.
