On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Daisy Giles, loving grandmother to many and mother of three passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 94. Born to Robert and Ida Slusher in Beverly Kentucky in 1929, Daisy was a hardworking and loving daddy's girl and a fierce protective sibling to her 5 brothers and sisters. Two of her favorite childhood stories were telling about how she defended her brothers from bullies at school and to lovingly and proudly share that her dad would allow her to be the only girl that he would take fishing. While I won't go into those details on the fighting, I will tell you that she was just as much a fighter at 94 as she was all those years ago as a child in Kentucky. Born into a place that had no running water and no electricity, Daisy learned to work hard, to value and protect family and to love God. After high school Daisy moved all the way to Galveston Texas. There she fell in love with a handsome, hardworking, and kind man named Monroe Huebner. They were soon married and had three children together, Charles, Ronnie and Shirley Huebner.

Early in her adult life Daisy was not only a wife and mother but she was also an avid horseman. Daisy competed in horse shows all over south Texas including the Houston livestock show and rodeo winning multiple awards for her efforts. Daisy would also lead 4H, boy scouts and would teach Sunday school as the kids were growing up. After raising her children to early adulthood with Monroe, she lost her husband in a tragic and sudden accident. In the years that followed, Daisy was remarried to Jessie "Butch" Giles, moved to South Carolina, and ultimately settled in the Texas hill country where she and Butch bought a ranch and built it into a safe-haven for friends and family to come and enjoy. Here Daisy thrived as she became known for her gardening, incredible cooking, sweet iced tea, and all her animals that she loved and cared for. Daisy was a woman ahead of her time, she was a fierce, confident and independent woman long before those traits were celebrated in America. Family and friends will miss her wry smile, her hugs, her meals and mostly her love and the way that she made everyone feel. One of the last and favorite memories of Daisy was of her telling family members, "If Jesus extends his hand to me, I'm going to snatch it up!". We know that He did, and we know that she did exactly what she said she was going to do. The family is grateful for all the many years that they had together, the extended period of time that they all had to tell her how they loved her and to say goodbye, and to the knowledge of knowing that she lived a full life and is in Heaven with Jesus where there is no more pain or suffering and that they will see her again.

Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Monroe R. Huebner and her husband, Jesse E. Giles.

She is survived by her children, Shirley Dudley (James), Ronnie Huebner and Charles Huebner (Cherri); grandchildren, Tiffany Huebner, Charles Huebner, Jr. (Katy), Dustin Dudley (Lauren), James F. Dudley, Jr., Lyndee McKinley (Chris, Brandy Davis (Matt), Shane Huebner, Heather Gardner (Chance) and Chelsea McGahee (Derek); great-grandchildren, Kelbey Huebner, Kolden Huebner, Cole Dudley, Caleb Dudley, Ellory Dudley, Wyatt Dudley, Margaret McKinley, Bria McKinley, Kinsleigh Huebner, Cora Lee McGahee, Camden McGahee, Ranie Huebner, Emily Davis, Kaylee Davis, Hayes Gardner, Brennan Gardner, Lauren Huebner, Haley Huebner, Chloe Huebner and Kodee Huebner and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, additional relatives and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM (with a visitation being held one hour prior) on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in Canyon Lake, Texas.  Private Family Burial will take place at a later date in the Galveston Area.
