In Loving Memory of David Vernon McCaffery

David Vernon McCaffery, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, and is now at rest.

Born on November 16, 1936, in Colon, Panama, David later made his way to Texas, where he graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1955.  He went on to serve in the United States Army in the early 1960s and later built a career in banking.

David was known for his humor and sarcasm, traits that were a recognizable part of his personality throughout his life.  He had a straightforward way of speaking and expressing himself that those closest to him will remember.

For the past year, David lived with dementia, facing the progressive effects of the disease. In his final chapter, he found peace and comfort.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Margaret Haus; his son-in-law, Jonathan Haus, both of Alta Loma, California; his granddaughter, Hannah Kathleen Johannessen and husband, Sverre Johannessen both of Chico, California; and his grandson, Michael Reid Haus of Alta Loma, California.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Vernon McCaffery; his mother Margaret Helen Goulding McCaffery; his two brothers, Robert McCaffery and Paul McCaffery.

Graveside Services, with Military Honors, will be held on June 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America or the American Kidney Fund in his memory.

David's life will be remembered by those who knew him in their own way, through shared moments, conversations, and memories that remain.
