David Lee Stinson, 78, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in New Braunfels, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and decorated veteran, David lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family and country.

Born on January 23, 1947, in Grand Junction, Colorado, David was the son of Lee and Claudine Stinson. He spent his formative years in Kansas, graduating from Concordia High School in Concordia before earning his degree from Washburn University in Topeka. His early education laid the foundation for a successful career and a life of service.

Before earning his degree from Washburn, David served honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. A decorated war veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. His military honors also include the National Defense Service Medal with two stars, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge. His service reflected not only courage but also a profound sense of duty that remained with him throughout his life.

David's dedication to veterans continued long after his military service ended. He remained actively involved with organizations such as the Purple Heart Association in Arvada, CO, and worked closely with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to support fellow servicemen and women

David began his professional journey in the transportation industry with Roadway Trucking as a Terminal Manager in Nebraska. His leadership and work ethic quickly became evident as he advanced through the ranks. He spent the majority of his career with Yellow Freight, working across Kansas, Texas, and Denver, Colorado. He concluded his distinguished career with USF Dugan in Denver. Throughout his years in logistics and freight management, David was known for his integrity and commitment to excellence.

Those who knew David remember him as a quiet and humble man with a sharp wit and an enormous heart. He cared deeply for those around him—especially his family—and found joy in their accomplishments and companionship.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ann Heitz of New Braunfels, TX; sister Claudia Bourne (Steve) of Olathe, Kansas; son Wes Stinson (Taryn) of Vernon Hills, Illinois; daughter Elizabeth Hand (David) of Westport, Connecticut; and six cherished grandchildren: Sari, Aaron, and Zach Stinson; Caitlin, Avery, and James Hand. He also leaves behind many other family members and great friends who will miss him dearly.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting tribute to a life well lived—with honor, humility, humor, and love.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on October 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home 189 N. Seguin Avenue, New Braunfels, TX. In place of flowers, please send any donations to your local Veterans Affairs office.
