Obituary

Deanna Marie Frisk, 86, of Canyon Lake, TX, passed away on May 4th, 2024 in San Marcos, TX. She was born April 17th, 1938 in Omaha, NE to Earl and Hazel (Hamer) Barnett.

Deanna attended Technical High School in Omaha NE, which is where she met her high school sweetheart Bob Frisk, and they were married in Omaha, on December 21, 1957.

She attended college for two years at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she studied home economics and communications.

Deanna was a beloved wife, homemaker and mother to daughter Vicki. She had many other achievements, hobbies and interests. She was co-owner with her husband of Custom Structures Corporation and she was his administrative assistant for several years. Prior to that, she was an administrative assistant for Nebraska Psychiatric Institute in Omaha.

In the years that followed, Deanna became an advocate for good government and an active member of The League of Women Voters in Omaha (LWV). She was elected to be President of the LWV there, and later became President of the State of Nebraska LWV. She was also elected to the Board of Papio Natural Resources District in Nebraska. She served, as well, as an appointed member of the local Omaha Public Power District Citizens' Advisory Committee and she was an appointed member of Mayor PJ Morgan's City of Omaha Master Plan Committee.

Shortly after she and Bob moved to Canyon Lake, Texas in 1999, she became President of the LWV of San Antonio, and later became President of the LWV in Comal County, TX. While serving in all these capacities in the LWV's in Nebraska and Texas, Deanna made trips to Washington to lobby for nonpartisan issues.

Deanna was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge, going to art fairs, traveling, boating and camping, and had a special love for music, especially folk music. She loved going to live concerts. She also enjoyed hearing her own family perform music, as, on many occasions, her daughter Vicki would sing with her guitar and husband Bob would play his harmonica. (They continue to do so now).

She was an animal lover and she is already being dearly missed by her cat Miss Kitty, who has now assumed new ownership of Mom's favorite chair in the living room.

Deanna is survived by her husband of 66 years, Emil Robert "Bob" Frisk, daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Gary J. Whitesel of Omaha, NE, grandchild Violet Whitesel of Omaha, NE, sister Sally Barnett of Silverdale, WA and sister-in-law, Karen Hadley of Huntsville, TX.  She will be deeply missed by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Hazel Barnett and brother Richard Barnett.

A memorial service will be held at the church where Deanna was a member, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31st, 2024 at North Shore United Methodist Church, 23880 N Cranes Mill Rd, Canyon Lake, TX 78133.  A reception will follow.
