Obituary

Denise Diane Zengler Reeder Gooding, 78, of New Braunfels, passed away April 17, 2021 at Brookdale-San Marcos North.

Denise was born in Canton, OH, the oldest child of John R. and Inez Zengler.  The family moved to New Braunfels in 1957. She graduated from New Braunfels High School, married Jerry L. Reeder (who predeceased her) in 1962, and had one son, Jerry Bradford "Brad" Reeder. Jerry and Denise were very active members in the Sheriff's Posse for several years, and they loved participating in the Posse trail rides.  They also enjoyed country-western dancing and taking trips to Branson, MO.

In 1998, Denise married Floyd B. Gooding, Sr., who predeceased her in 2019. She was then working for Children and Protective Services in New Braunfels, but in previous years she was employed by R&K Building Supplies/Home Service Center, Town & Country Realtors, and the Comal County Sheriff's Department.  Floyd and Denise frequently enjoyed RVing with fellow campers.  And Denise always had time for friends and family; she especially loved meeting them regularly for coffee – or margaritas!

Denise is survived by her son, Jerry Bradford "Brad" Reeder, by her mother, Elvera Kneuper Zengler (John Zengler, deceased), by four brothers: Darrell Zengler (Marilyn), JR Zengler (Barbara, deceased), Sam Kneuper (Renee), Matt Zengler (Sheila), and by two sisters: Jill Kneuper (George), Beth Crocker (John) and sister-in-law Pat Kneuper Tepe.  She is also survived by Floyd's son, Floyd B. Gooding, Jr. (Bernadette), and two grandsons, Robert Gooding, and Wayne Gooding.  Denise has numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.

Predeceasing Denise was her father, John Zengler; mother, Inez Zengler; brother, Steve Kneuper; and sister-in-law, Barbara Zengler.

Visitation will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 pm, with Rosary at 6:00pm.  Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 24, 2021, also at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home starting at 11:00 am to be followed by burial at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
