Dorothy Ruth Abbott Shreves of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed away February 25, 2025, in New Braunfels, Texas, to join her beloved husband and family and to be forever held in the loving arms of Jesus and God whom she held most dear.
She was born May 28, 1928, in Shattuck, Oklahoma to David Brian Abbott and Faye Dora Wallace Abbott.
Dorothy moved to Leedey Oklahoma at a young age where her dad owned the local bakery. Dorothy's job was to deliver the bread to the local residents. After she turned 19 her father was killed in a category 5 tornado on May 31, 1947. Dorothy worked multiple jobs to raise her 3 siblings. Later she met and married Forest Shreves in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They were blessed with 4 children. The family lived in several places as the families of oil field workers often due but Dorothy strived to always keep the family together safe and happy.
Bud and Dorothy were devout members of the church of Christ and lived their lives with love of God in their hearts.
Dorothy formed the widows club with the other widows at the church and for many years they have all met twice a week to play a train.
Every time this daughter has visited her mom for the last 10 years, she has repeatedly stated that she is so blessed to be a member of the canyon lake church of Christ and have friends like you.
Both forest and Dorothy were blessed by you as I am sure you were blessed by them. For this we the family THANK you.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Forest E. (Bud) Shreves, Sister, Margaret Martin gamble and David Brian Abbott.
She is survived by 4 children; Dorothy Michelle Shreves, Forest E. (Bud) Shreves, III, (Alice), Terri Shreves Engelke (Tony), Mark Quade Shreves (Vickie); sister, Alice Abbott Matheson, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren, and a great many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at Canyon Lake in Sattler, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Canyon Lake Church of Christ in Startzville, Texas. She will be laid to rest at 2:30 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
