It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Wenzel on May 3, 2025.  She was born May 29, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas to Hilmar and Freida Rohde.

Dorothy was the caretaker of the Wenzel Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas.  She was a loving and caring person.  She was always there whenever she was needed by her family and friends.  She worked very hard on her father-in-law's farm unloading corn off a wagon into a barn.  She took very good care of her mother-in-law taking her to town to buy groceries and other things she needed.  She fed and watered the cattle and made sure the ranch was kept in good shape.  She chopped weeds and Mesquite in the summertime.

One of the great accomplishments in her life was that she helped raise the Grand Champion pen of Broilers at the New Braunfels Youth Market Show for her children.  She also raised Turkeys, Steers, and Heifers to be shown.  She was like a veterinarian watching the animals if they were sick or not.

When her daughter was sick, she spent 20 ½ years keeping her alive.  She spent the majority of her time in hospitals and taking her to dr. appointments.  She even got to fly on a plane for 6 months to and from Dallas to spend time with Susan every weekend.  She knew how to take care of people.  She worked like a man.

She is preceded in death by her husband Norbert Wenzel and her daughter Susan Wenzel.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Don and Roy Wenzel of New Braunfels, and 2 sisters, Shirley Hardcastle of San Antonio, and Mary Ann Ramel of Fredericksburg, Texas.

The family will receive friend on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 PM.  A mass will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels.  She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery #1 in New Braunfels.
