Dwayne Elton Jones passed away April 16, 2026, of natural causes near his three sons in his home in Bulverde, Texas.

Dwayne was born on April 6, 1934, in the township of Webster, Rooks County, Kansas to Dwight and Cecile (Ramsey) Jones. Dwayne had two older siblings, Eva (deceased) and Frank (deceased). He had three younger siblings, David (deceased), Jerald (deceased) and Linda (Jones) Geade.

Dwayne grew up on farm where he learned farming and house moving. He used those skills to supervise construction of grain elevators and buildings near Dodge City and Hutchinson, Kansas. He met Zona Day at a skating rink in Dodge City, Kansas and was married at age twenty. Together they had four sons, Ricky, Randy, Mike (deceased), and Mark.

His work took them to Denver, Colorado where he supervised the remodeling of Larimer Square in downtown Denver. He also pioneered pre-fab construction of track homes in Denver. He later started Big Bear Builders in Evergreen, Colorado and constructed large custom homes using his prefabrication innovations. In Evergreen he met and married his second wife, who was a Realtor, (Constance) Joan (Davidson) (Gilliam) which allowed him to became the stepfather of Mark (deceased), David (deceased), and Laurie (deceased).

Together Dwayne and Joan moved to a farm near Blackfoot, Idaho, where several extended family members worked and lived. After longing to be in Texas they moved to San Antonio where they parented their granddaughters, Nicole (Hilbig) Mayberry (deceased) and Sarah Hilbig. Their mother Laurie had unfortunately passed away when the girls were small children.

Dwayne was a superintendent and constructed several commercial buildings in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. He became CAD certified and designed several buildings and drew plans for them. He designed and drew plans for Stone Oak Presbyterian Church and assisted with construction of Coker United Methodist Church.
Dwayne and Joan had a passion for German Shepherds. They raised several generations of AKC registered and first place champion Shepherds. Dwayne was an inventor and had several inventions submitted for patents. His design acumen came in handy for inventing construction tools that allowed for more efficient methods of construction on several of his projects.

He lived a long and full life and will be missed by family and friends.

Services are to be held at Coker United Methodist Church, 14630 Wurzbach Pkwy., San Antonio, Texas, 78216, Saturday July 11, 2026, at 10 AM.
