Obituary

Eric (aka, Butch) Wayne Erickson was born to Clarence & LaRayne (Nora) Erickson on August 11, 1950 in Norway, Michigan. He passed from this life on February 18, 2024 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 73.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles (Chum) Bruette and sister, Sandy Klein.

He is survived by his wife of 49+ years, Nancy L. Erickson of Canyon Lake, Texas; sisters, Donna Wickman, Paula Holmes, Kara Benda and Barbara Schultz and numerous nieces, nephews, additional relatives and dear friends.

Eric graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Michigan in 1968. He continued his studies at Albion College and completed his degree at Michigan State University in 1978, earning a degree in Medical Technology. An internship was immediately granted at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas. (Eric and Nancy were to spend only a year before returning north.)

Eric was offered and accepted a job at Ben Taub following his internship. He continued to work at the hospital until an offer came from BioMerieux. Eric accepted and became the Sales and Technical Consultant, supporting the south-central region of states. He has been retired from BioMerieux for over 10 years, at this point he and Nancy built a house in the Hill Country, where Eric could get a better view of the cosmos.

A lifelong passion of Eric's was photography. He was an Independent Photographic Professional, publishing many photographs in multiple periodicals. His other passion and one that Eric was "out of this world" about, was astronomy! Eric was very active in the New Braunfels Astronomy Club and Comal County Friends of the Dark Sky. Eric wrote a weekly astronomy column for the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung newspaper and along with being one of the presenters at the Tye Preston Memorial Library's Star Parties, sharing his love of astronomy with the next generation.

Another of Eric's passion was with music, whether discovering new music, listening to the classics (rock) or playing his guitars with friends all night long (with those who shall remain nameless!)

Eric was very involved in the Clearwater Estates HOA, volunteering his time, knowledge, and areas of expertise, including being on the social committee, specializing in the entertainment (music), grounds and maintenance (especially the lighting!), and a term as President.
