Ethel Mae (Wetz) Jonas peacefully entered eternal life at her home on her beloved farm in New Braunfels on October 23, 2025, at the age of 87. Ethel had a brief illness and was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.

Ethel, affectionately known as "Granny" since 1983 was born on January 10, 1938, to Arthur Wetz and Hilda (Tschoepe) Wetz in Marion, Texas. Ethel met her husband Donald while working at Mission Valley Mills. Ethel and Donald B. Jonas were married on August 27, 1960. Ethel and Donald shared almost 60 years together before his passing in August 2020. Ethel and Donald moved to their beloved farm in 1967 and began raising cattle. She enjoyed being with her family, cooking, cheering at sporting events, word search books, being outside and politics.

Ethel was preceded in death by her beloved husband and parents. She was the last survivor of her siblings and was preceded in death by siblings Leroy Wetz, Nelson Wetz, Donald "Buddy" Wetz, Evelyn Wetz, Lillian Schuetz, Vivian Roberts and Joyce Wright.

Ethel is survived by her daughters Donna (Rufus) Crump, Denise Jonas and Danette (Glenn) Maxwell. She is survived by her grandchildren Derek (Alex) Ninneman, Dana (John) Gonzales, Drew (Danielle) Ninneman, Ashley Bading, Christy (Rob) Bloom, Tanner Maxwell and Allison Maxwell. She is survived by her great- grandchildren Dean Ninneman, Blake Ninneman, Nathan Shea (Kalle Chaplin), Faylee Shea (Dannie Nance), Kylli Gonzales, Hunter Gonzales, Bella Gonzales, Daphne Ninneman, Delilah Ninneman, Addison Bading, Jada Bloom, Caden Bloom and Kenzie Bloom. She is survived by her great-great grandchildren Andreas and Kaislee. Ethel is also survived by her loyal dog Reba, numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law Arlene Uecker and Carol Abbott.

A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday October 30, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area.
