Our precious mother, Eva Hevener, 96, of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed to her heavenly home on December 22, 2023.  Eva was a fun person to know, and was loved dearly by her family and friends.  She will be truly missed.

Although Eva had lived in various places in Texas, she was very happy to be able to retire in the Canyon Lake area.  She loved the Canyon Lake community, and was very active in the VFW post #8573 where she served as an officer in the Ladies Auxiliary, while her husband, Casey Hevener, served as a former commander. She was also very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Canyon Lake.  Her activities in these organizations included handing out poppies on Memorial Day, sewing lap blankets, making ditty bags, working garage sales and concession stands…in other words, anything to help fund-raise for, or honor our veterans.  She was a very patriotic and proud American.

She married the love of her life, Casey Hevener, in 1996, and he preceded her in death in 2017, and now they are once again reunited. Eva was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Eva is survived by her son Lonny Butler and wife Evy of Norway, her daughter Evonne Turner and husband Johnny of Austin, daughter Marion Cassell of New Braunfels, her daughter Kathy Buckley and husband John of Kingsbury, her son Calvin Woody of Rising Star, many precious grandchildren and great grandchildren, other special family members and close friends that she held dear.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials to be made to the American Heart Association.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in Sattler at Canyon Lake.  A committal service will follow at 2:15 PM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
