Fatima Kho Burke was born to Jose "Kiya" & Anita (Planas) Kho on March 4, 1949 in Bacolod, Philippines.

She passed from this life on March 23, 2021 at the age of 72 in New Braunfels, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Rosalinda Kho.

Fatima is survived by her loving husband, Bill Burke of New Braunfels; brothers, Ernesto Planas and Tom Burke; sisters, Terry Burke, Laurie Burke, Lupe Guajardo, Florita Kho and Jasmine Kho and nieces & nephews, Gina Duran, Nimrod Planas, Lemuel Planas, Sybel Velicaria, Ernanie Planas and Jonathan Planas.

Fatima graduated from Central Philippine University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  She devoted the next 41 years of her professional life helping the sick.  Fatima was the type of nurse we all wish to have.  While she was knowledgeable and proficient, she was also compassionate, always letting her patients know that she truly cared.  In addition, Fatima helped to train many new nurses and passed on her skills to the next generation.

Fatima loved her family and was extremely loyal and protective.  She decided in 1977 to emigrate to the United States, to have sufficient income to help her nieces and nephews.  Fatima regularly sent money back to the Philippines, and in later years helped with the cost of some of their higher education.  She was always there to help.  Fatima dearly loved her family, including those she has not seen in many years.  It had always been her hope that she could re-establish contact with them.

Fatima had a strong social conscience often riling at economic inequities and racial biases.  Her opinions were based on her empathy for people.  Fatima could not pass someone that was asking for help without giving that person a few dollars, along with a smile and some kind words.  She always believed that, there but for the grace of God go I.

Fatima was passionate about travel, playing the piano, Casino one-arm bandits and her cat Cheddar.  She also had a wicked sense of humor and had played a number of practical jokes on her nursing school classmates, that were still making classmates laugh 45 years later.  Fatima is also known to have provided insider tips to a young cousin trying to find Easter eggs on her first Easter egg hunt.  She was always there to help anyone in need.

The night before Fatima died she wanted to have a celebration with her husband Bill.  Fatima and Bill had been together for 33 years.  While Fatima was not much of a beer drinker, she asked Bill to buy some beer for their celebration.  While listening to music and drinking beer, Fatima and Bill reminisced about their adventures together.  The following morning, Fatima died within a few minutes of rising.

Fatima will be truly missed.
