Francis John "Red" Mathieu was born to Rita and John Mathieu on July 31, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Red passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in New Braunfels, Texas.

Red is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth; sister, Marion; and his sons, Robert and Mark. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce; daughter, Nancy; son, Jason; and grandchildren Ryan, Sydney, Aarian, Tristan, and Braeden.

Red led a beautiful and heartfelt life, respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Leaving Humboldt, SD, as a young man, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country.  Soon, he met his wife, Joyce (Sapaugh) Mathieu. He later attended and graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

Throughout his life, Red found joy in woodworking, fishing, coaching soccer, traveling the world with Joyce and friends, and always offering a helping hand. His generosity, integrity, intelligence, dependability, and unconditional love defined him.

A rosary will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, TX, on Tuesday, April 8, at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels, TX, on Wednesday, April 9, at 10:00 AM.

Following the funeral service, a procession will lead to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. After the burial, the family will receive friends at their home in New Braunfels.
