Gale O'Hara Pospisil, age 78, former Mayor of the City of New Braunfels, drew her last breath on this earth on January 9, 2024 from complications due to cancer.  She was born to the late Rena (O'Hara) Girten and Joseph O'Hara in Washington DC.  Gale graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi in 1963 and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Finance from Southwest Texas State in 1993.

If variety is the spice of life, then Gale had a "spicy" life.  Born into a military family, as a child she lived in many parts of the US and two foreign countries (Cuba and Trinidad-Tobago).  Following her father's retirement from the Navy, she lived in Corpus Christi for almost twenty years where she met and married the father of her two sons, David and Matthew Gibson.  Gale considered Corpus her hometown, but New Braunfels became her home when she moved here following her marriage to husband Vladimir in 1983.

Her careers included time as a legal secretary, secretary at an oilfield supply business and an insurance company, and 11 years as a sales rep for the Process Control Division of Honeywell.  A real estate broker and state certified real estate appraiser, Gale and husband, Vladimir, owned and operated Pospisil Appraisal Service on Main Plaza from 1985 to 2005.  During that time, she served as president of the New Braunfels Board of Realtors and the and the National Association of Master Appraisers.  And she was instrumental in the formation of the Association of Texas Appraisers, having handled all the legal and organizational details, and she served as their first Executive Director.

Gale served on the New Braunfels City Council as District 3 Representative from 2003 to 2009 including three years as Mayor Pro Tem.  Then following a brief hiatus from council during which time she was active with the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, the New Braunfels Parks Foundation, and the Friends of the New Braunfels Public Library, she was elected Mayor in 2011 and served for three years before being term limited.

Adding spice to her life, Gale loved to dance, fish, travel (all 50 states), cruise, read mysteries and garden.  And she enjoyed spending time with their blended family.  She leaves behind her beloved husband Vladimir, their six children, seven grandchildren, four younger brothers and all their families.

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas.  A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday January 15, 2024 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
