In Loving Memory of Gavin Glenn Fortenberry
April 5, 2009 – February 19, 2026

Gavin Glenn Fortenberry was born on April 5, 2009, in Round Rock, Texas. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 19, 2026, at the age of 16.

Gavin was a sophomore at Canyon High School, where he was known by friends as intelligent, thoughtful, loyal, and deeply faith-filled. Though naturally quiet and reserved, once Gavin let you into his heart, he was unwavering in his love and support. Those fortunate enough to earn his trust knew they had a defender and a friend for life.

Above all else, Gavin was a devoted son and brother. He never left a room without telling his mom and sisters that he loved them. His family was his safe place, and he made sure they always knew how deeply he cared. He had the biggest heart — compassionate, thoughtful, and endlessly loving.

Gavin treasured movie nights with his family. He didn't just watch films — he studied them, breaking down the plot, analyzing every twist, and imagining how he might rewrite the story to make it different or better. He loved staycations with his mom and sisters — ordering fun food, watching movies, and pretending to be millionaires for the weekend. Those simple moments meant everything to him.

He loved all things water — swimming, fishing, and the beach — even though he couldn't stand the feeling of sand on his feet. Some of his happiest memories were made at his grandparents' home and in Florida, where he learned to work in the shop, fish, and cook. Gavin had a true gift in the kitchen. He loved cooking for his family and alongside them, experimenting with spices almost as much as his Grandpa Jeff loves his sauces. Preparing meals for the people he loved brought him joy.

Gavin had a playful stubborn streak — as hard-headed as his grandma — and that determination was part of what made him who he was. He loved gaming, computers, and spending hours talking with friends on Discord. His friends describe him as incredibly smart, deeply loyal, strong in his Christian faith, and someone who would stand by you through anything.

Gavin is survived by his loving mother, Lacy Tinsley; his father, Chad Niland; and his beloved sisters, Bailey and Frankie Tinsley. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Sonja and Jeff Stone, and Glenn and Shannon Fortenberry; his paternal grandparents, Arty and Debbie Niland; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who loved him deeply.

Gavin's life, though far too short, was filled with love — for his family, his friends, his faith, and his dogs. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, deep compassion, and unconditional love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be forever missed, forever loved, and forever 16.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at the chapel of Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home, 189 N. Seguin Ave., New Braunfels, Texas 78130.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM also on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78266. There will be no procession from the funeral home, All to meet at the cemetery.

A Reception will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic church beginning at 2:30 PM.  The public is invited to attend.
