Gerald Payne Hinman was born to Homer Alexander & Helen Irene (Payne) Hinman on July 26, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee.

He passed from this life on April 24, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 79.

Gerald resided with his loving wife, Cathy, in New Braunfels, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sandra Dyer; brother-in-law, Wallace Denby; sister-in-law, Barbara Hartigan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Frank & Betty Weber; and brother-in-law, John Tello.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Cathy D. (Weber) Hinman of New Braunfels; daughter, Stacy Barth & husband, Dwayne of Lockhart, Texas; sons, William Hinman & wife, Angela of New Braunfels and Travis Hinman & wife, Micaela of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Therisa Denby; brother-in-law, Ron Dyer; grandchildren, Craig Barth, Jake Barth, Maggie Hotch & husband, Zach, Hannah Barth, Olivia Barth, Meredith Van Wychen & husband, Blake, Cole Hinman, Maddie Hinman, and Charlotte Hinman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe Hartigan, Betsy & Herby Caldwell, John & Marilyn Weber, James & Martha Weber, Margie Tello, Joseph & Susan Weber, Mary & Michael Schmidt, and Audrey & Ron Barber; and many additional nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

Gerald attended New Braunfels schools and graduated from high school in 1962. During his senior year in high school, Gerald enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served from 1962 to 1968 on the USS Shangri-La.

On one of his trips home on leave, Gerald was introduced to Cathy Weber who became his true love and best friend. Their romance blossomed despite their long distance away from each other. After Gerald finished his Naval service, they were married in December of 1968 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Gerald worked different jobs over the years to support his family. One of his favorite times was spent working with his dad at Schnapps Haus.

Gerald was a parishioner at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the local Knights of Columbus.

Over the years, Gerald enjoyed travelling with his family. As a young child, he took many memorable trips to visit his Tennessee family. He later relived those memories with Cathy and their children when they took trips to Tennessee. Some of his favorite vacations were to Las Vegas, Disney World, Lake Tahoe, and the Texas Coast.

Besides spending time with his family, Gerald loved to hunt. He acquired his love of hunting from Cathy's family and passed that tradition down to his sons and grandsons.

Tuesday mornings won't be the same without Gerald at Marinas with his brothers-in-law and other family members. He looked forward to it every week and thoroughly enjoyed the companionship and roundtable discussions.

Through his time and generosity, Gerald loved helping others. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM (with a Rosary being Recited at 6 PM) on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels, Texas with Father Mike Peinemann as the Celebrant. Private Family Interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Association, or Sts. Peter and Paul School Trust Fund.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Craig Barth, Jake Barth, Cole Hinman, Scott Weber, Harold Ott, and Jerome Bodemann.
