On May 10th at approximately 11:00 pm at the age of 102 Guadalupe B. "Lupe" Suarez passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Coupland, Tx. To Luis Suarez and Paula Barbosa Suarez. At the age of 5 the family moved to new Braunfels. To an area called  "La Calera". The family moved to 1690 Katy Street, where the house still stands.  He was drafted and joined the Army during WWII.
He was the second wave that landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on D-Day. He was wounded during the battle of the bulge, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

He married Consuelo Martinez on December 20, 1947, and had 5 children, Louis, Raquel, Ricardo, Yvonne and Rosalva. They had thirteen grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

Lupe also did his civic duty and was one of the first city councilmen elected in the early 1970's and served seven (7) years in which during tis time he was the first Mayor Pro-Tem
elected by his peers.

He enjoyed or shall I say loved playing golf and in more than one occasion scored a Hole-in-One at this city's beautiful golf course.  He taught several of his nephews and couple of grandsons the love of the sport in which in turn they were gifted a set of golf clubs that he put together from his private collection.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, his wife of 68 years, a daughter Yolanda, his oldest son Louis, grandchildren Adrian, Sabrina, Vanessa and all 11 siblings.

He is survived by daughter Raquel Schmidt (Bill), son, Ricardo, daughter Yvonne Nutt (Jim)
and Rosalva "Rosie" Sherrow.

There are no words to express the gratitude we have for the kindness, patience, and professionalism the entire staff showed our father. And, to Crystal for the special help you provided.

A funeral service will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 7:00 PM with Dr. Carlos Campos officiating.  The family will recieve friends from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery (shelter 1) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM with military honors.
