Helen Hernandez Lofland (born Maria Helena Hernandez) passed away at 8:00 am on January 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Canyon Lake, Texas. Helen was born on October 26, 1935, in El Paso Texas. She was the second of four daughters born to Donaciano and Estella Hernandez.

Helen attended Ysleta High School where she played saxophone in the marching band, and attended the University of Texas at El Paso. She earned a bachelor's degree in business and retired after a long career in civil service at White Sands Missile Range.

She married Richard Prosapio during college and had two daughters, Christy and Winter. Some years after their divorce, she remarried the man who would be the great love of her life, James Lofland.

Helen studied world religions, undergoing decades of extensive research to write a book that disclosed those discoveries. She completed the bulk of the work on that book prior to her passing; it will be published posthumously.

Helen was a woman of tremendous style ad beauty, who turned heads throughout her life. You'd see her wearing high heels and a lovely outfit whether she was shopping for party dresses or garden tools at the hardware store. She was always complimented on her effortless grace and elegance.

Helen was not just beautiful, but also gifted with a sharp wit and great sense of humor. Her humor was delivered with aplomb and stories of her witty remarks were often retold for weeks afterwards yielding renewed bouts of laughter and giggles.

As a result of her passing, the world is a little less glamorous, funny, and bright today.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donaciano and Estella, her younger sister, Corrie, her husband, James, and her little poodle companion, Roxie. She leaves behind her two sisters, Carmen and Linda, her daughters, Christy and Winter, their spouses, Tony and Adam, her grandchildren, Selene, Corey, Andrew, Sierra, and Mireya, and her great-granddaughter, Leila. She also leaves behind all manner of grand dogs and grand cats who were often spoiled in her presence.

Services will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in Canyon Lake on Friday, January 24th with a brief wake at 9 am, services at 11 am, and a graveside service at 12:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to her three favorite charitable organizations: Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union, or Doctors Without Borders.
