Helen Millie (Sisak) Schorn passed away peacefully in her home in New Braunfels on May 18, 2026, at the age of 88, with her children by her side.  She was born on January 31, 1938, to Rudolph and Millie (Mares) Sisak in Bastrop County, the seventh of eight children.

Helen was only six years old when her mother died, and the family left their farm at Jeddo for New Braunfels a few years later.  She would happily call New Braunfels home for the rest of her life.

She was a proud Czech in a town full of Germans.  She would meet one of these Germans, Jerome Schorn, at a dance at Gruene Hall.  After he returned from serving overseas, they married on August 22, 1959, and together they shared 66 wonderful years until his passing five months ago to the day.

After graduating from New Braunfels High School in 1956, she worked as a key punch operator at USAA and later for Volkswagen Southwest.  She eventually joined her husband, Jerome, at their own company, Royal Services, Inc., which specialized in managing water utility districts.

Upon their early retirement in the 1990s, Jerome and Helen began acquiring and renovating houses.  They often performed much of the home improvement work themselves, later renting the properties and eventually providing several tenants the opportunity to achieve homeownership.

She and Jerome traveled extensively, with Helen serving as "travel agent" for their many adventures.  For many years, she planned the vacations she took with her sisters, children, and grandchildren, creating memories they will always cherish.

Helen was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she was active in the Bereavement Committee and St. Ann's Christian Mother's Altar Society.  She served as president of the Parent-Teachers Conference at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and as a room mother for both of her children's classes.  For many years, she enjoyed bowling and monthly card games with friends; and in 1966, she founded a bunco club which still meets monthly to play.

Jerome often referred to Helen as "the life of the party."  She was funny, quick-witted, and could keep the conversation going until the end of any gathering, and then a bit longer.   Kind, thoughtful of others, fun-loving and always ready for adventure, Helen lived life to the fullest.  She made every holiday special, and she loved Christmas, with her beautifully decorated tree and unforgettable chocolate chip cookies.  Helen was always there for her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Schorn Smith; son, Scott Schorn and wife Kimberly; granddaughters, Kelley Zekos and husband Max, and Allison Schorn; sisters, Virdie Pennington, Mildred Jackson and husband Henry, and Ernestine Nelson; sister-in-law, Ellarene Sisak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Schorn; son-in-law, Kevin Smith; parents; sisters, Sylvia Nollkamper and Della Mae Saur; and brothers, Ernest Sisak and Joe Sisak.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels.   A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  Entombment will follow at 11:30 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Mausoleum, with a reception to follow at the church.
