Obituary

Helen Eleanora (Wenske) Mellor, of New Braunfels, Texas, celebrated her 100th birthday on July 6, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.  She passed from this life on August 7, 2023.  Helen was born in Gonzales, Texas, and is predeceased by her parents, Julius and Cecilia Wenske, her husband of 61 years, George Clinton Mellor, and her 11 siblings.

Helen lived in Corpus Christi and Orange Grove before attending Alamo Beauty College in San Antonio.  She worked as a beautician for four years.  Helen relocated to New Braunfels in 1945 when her parents moved there from the family farm in Gonzales.  She married George Mellor on July 12, 1947.  They worked lovingly together to raise four children.

Helen was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a member of St. Ann's Christian Mother's Altar Society.  She was an avid participant in her children's activities and often volunteered with the Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts.  She enrolled her children in the parochial school to ensure they received a Catholic education.  She was an accomplished seamstress and spent countless hours sewing for all the members of her family.

Her children fondly remember all the homemade cakes, pies and cookies she made so often.  Holidays were always a treat with all the preparations for the meal which mom created from scratch and the homemade Christmas tree decorations we made together; it was magic!  Her daughters wanted to add that they will never forget the beautiful clothes she fashioned for their dolls at Christmas time.

Helen is survived by her four children, Craig Mellor of New Braunfels, Janice and husband, Charlie Mills of Del Rio, Jennifer and husband, Steve Helmcamp of San Marcos and Susan and husband, Freddie Buch of New Braunfels; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, and 15 great grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nana, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her children and family would like to thank the caring staff of Gruene Senior Living for the excellent care they gave to their mother for more than four and a half years and to HOPE Hospice for their guidance and caring for their mom during her final days.  May God grant her eternal rest.

In lieu flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann's Christian Mothers Altar Society, HOPE Hospice, or the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area, Inc.
