A Bulverde resident for many years, Henry was a devoted family man who lived a rich and full life for almost 90 years. He was an iconic Texan in heritage, spirit, and appearance. He had a keen intellect, a pleasant personality, a lively sense of humor, and was always fun and interesting. Henry had many talents and skills, and served as a teacher, coach, researcher, writer, editor, draftsman, and businessman. He was hard working and was always helping others with whatever was needed.

Born and raised in Temple, Texas, he was a star football quarterback for Temple High School. After high school he attended Texas A&I University (Texas A&M University Kingsville) and graduated with a degree in mathematics. He next worked at Westinghouse Electric, McDermott/Hudson (Fluor) Engineering, and taught math and coached football at Pearland High School. During his free time enjoyed refereeing high school and little league football.

He left teaching to join his wife, Janet B. (Kleck) Wagner, as her business partner for 40 years at the successful consulting firm of J. K. Wagner & Company, Inc., headquartered in Houston. The firm consulted for the military, Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and for many other clients, such as Harris County Flood Control District, Houston Housing Authority, the City of Houston, and Harris County Public Schools—to name a few—to find historic properties, archeological sites, and hazardous materials.

Henry and Janet met in Corpus Christi and were married for 69 years. Henry was always by Janet's side. He helped with research and reporting.  He kept them safe and secure during their many trips from Bulverde to Houston and back, and whenever their work led them to such remote places as the National Archives in Washington, D. C., the Mormon Genealogical Library in Salt Lake City, and to archives in London, Kew, and Oxford. They both had a passionate interest in the history and culture of Texas and surrounding regions.

Henry loved gourmet cooking, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He spent many special weekends with Janet at their ranch in Bulverde, where they loved to host parties for family and friends. They were always in good spirits and happy to treat guests to Henry's gourmet barbeque and other culinary delights.  Henry enjoyed reciting poetry or playing tunes on a small pipe organ at the ranch house. He loved music, especially western and folk tunes played on the guitar. He loved to target shoot, hunt deer, and shoot skeet in a nearby field. His family and his many friends and acquaintances will miss him and will cherish their memories of him.

Preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Janet B. (Kleck) Wagner (October 28, 1938 - January 3, 2023), Henry is survived by children Mark Wagner and wife Kelly, and daughter Pamela J. Wyrick-Scott and husband Mark Scott of Bulverde, grandchildren Brandon Wyrick of Georgetown, Brandi Wyrick, her fiancé Lucas Thompson of Windermere, Florida, and Chase Wagner of Santa Anna, California.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced when it has been determined.
