Herbert John
Acker, Jr.
Oct 4, 1928 — Apr 7, 2026
Herbert John Acker, Jr. was born to Herbert Emil Acker, Sr. & Irma Clara (Haecker) Acker on October 4, 1928, in New Braunfels, Texas. He passed from this life, peacefully in his sleep, on April 7, 2026, in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 97.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Caroline "Kaleen" (Stollewerk) Acker in 1991; brother Harvey Acker in 2006; nieces Loretta Brown, Etta Lou "Tita" Rose, and Vickie Lynn Kennedy; and nephew Lewin Mitchell Rose.
Herbert is survived by his nieces, Rozelle Watson, Ramona Peck (Jim), Dianna Jo Neuse, and Kathy Rust; nephews, Tommy Acker (Pam), Russell Stollewerk (Ann), and Don Kirmse (Paula); sister-in-law Annabelle Acker; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Herbert graduated from and played football for New Braunfels High School, class of 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Kaleen Stollewerk on October 5, 1949. He joined the Texas National Guard and served honorably. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at First Protestant Church and served there in several voluntary positions over many years. He worked as a bricklayer and mason for 40+ years, retiring in 1990. Herbert's favorite thing to do was to make sure Kaleen was always happy. He donated gallons of blood over time, receiving his "5 gallon" pin some years ago. SOS Food Bank was a favorite place to volunteer for many years. He was a Hermann Sons member for over 80 years. Although Herbert and Kaleen had no children, they treated their nieces and nephews as their own. Camping and fishing were some activities he enjoyed, but his favorite hobby was hunting. He made many trips to west Texas hunting for mule deer and later had several leases in Comal County with friends and family. He was a quiet unassuming honorable man. We love you, Uncle Herbert!
