Irma Tamez was born September 8, 1944 to Bernardo Ruiz Tamez and Guadalupe Gonzalez Martinez in Alice, Texas. Irma graduated in 1962 from William Adams High School. Upon graduation from high school, she moved to the North Texas area to pursue her lifelong dream of obtaining a higher education. In 1966, Irma graduated from Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas, obtaining her bachelor's degree. Irma continued her hard working being a student of education earning her master's degree. Irma went on to proudly complete course work for her certifications in both Bilingual Education and Counseling.
Irma's teaching career began in San Diego, Texas followed by her long tenure servicing her beloved students at the New Braunfels Independent School District. Irma loved teaching at the elementary school level and continued her passion of teaching working with the NBHS students where she served as a counselor until her retirement.
Irma was preceded in death by Joe Alvarado, siblings Arnulfo and Rene Tamez, and parents. Surviving Irma are Cecil Moody, Joseph and Doralisa Alvarado as well as her grandchildren Jerika, Jelisa, Paul and Peyton Alvarado. Marianna, her beloved great granddaughter also survives Irma as do Marianna's parents Jesika Alvarado McCafferty and Shane McCafferty. Other survivors include her beloved brothers Bernardo and David Tamez and his beloved wife Rachel. Irma is also survived by her sister, Anita Stipnieks, and her husband Maris. Irma was rich with love and blessings from her many nieces and nephews located all over Texas, Oklahoma, and the New England area. Irma, a lifelong resident of New Braunfels, will also be missed by her many friends and family in the community.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that you register at the following link to attend the graveside service in order to plan for proper social distancing. Although this will be an outdoor event, masks will be required.
