Jerome Gilbert Schorn, a lifelong resident of New Braunfels, passed away on December 18, 2025, at the age of 90.  Born on June 22, 1935, in New Braunfels, he was the only child of Arno and Olivia (Staats) Schorn.

Jerome often reminisced about his early childhood on the farm before the family moved to town.  At the age of 14, he began what he described as his favorite job:  working as an usher at the Brauntex Theater.  This experience began a lifetime of enjoyment watching movies.

After graduating from New Braunfels High School in 1953, he attended business college in San Antonio, where he acquired the accounting skills that would become his career.  He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 as a Specialist in the Army Security Agency, stationed in Ethiopia.  Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Helen Sisak, in 1959.  Together, they shared 66 wonderful years.

His accounting career included positions at Becker Motor Company in New Braunfels and Nance & Associates, a real estate developer in San Antonio.  This experience would lead him to establish his own company, Royal Services Inc., which specialized in managing water utility districts.

Upon his early retirement in the 1990s, Jerome and Helen began acquiring and renovating houses.  They often performed much of the home improvement work themselves, later renting the properties and eventually providing several tenants the opportunity to achieve homeownership.

He and Helen traveled extensively, and Jerome possessed an uncanny ability to recall the finest details of their many adventures.  He frequently included his children and grandchildren on these travels, creating memories they will always cherish.

Jerome was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and nine-pin bowling leagues at Freiheit Bowling Alley.  For many years, he enjoyed monthly card games with friends and was the family's "grandmaster" of the card game 66, always eager to share his winning strategies.  He was also the family's celebrated "pitmaster," known for making the best smoked pork tenderloin and smoked baked potatoes.

Kind, reserved, soft-spoken, generous, and considerate of others, Jerome was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a constant pillar of support for his family, and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Helen Schorn; daughter, Terri Schorn Smith; son, Scott Schorn and wife Kimberly; and granddaughters, Kelley Zekos and husband Max, and Allison Schorn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Kevin Smith.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels.   A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.  Entombment will follow at 11:30 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum, with a reception to follow at the church.
