Joe Ruben Luna, 71, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on September 16, 2026 in New Braunfels. He was born March 2, 1955, in New Braunfels, to Jesus and Valentina (Valdez) Luna, Joe lived a life defined by yard work, service to his community, and above all, love for his family.

Joe graduated from New Braunfels High School and went on to train as an automotive mechanic. He later began a long and dedicated career with New Braunfels Utilities, where he spent many years serving the community he called home. He worked for NBU until retiring at the age of 55. After retiring, he focused more on what he loved; BBQing, fishing and family.

While Joe took great pride in his work, his greatest joy was his family. His three grandchildren-Corinne, Gavin and Jasmine-were truly his pride and joy. The title of “Grandpa,” however, extended far beyond his own grandchildren. Joe was affectionately known as “Grandpa” to many members of his extended family, a reflection of the warmth, love, and sense of family he shared so generously with those around him.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Valentina Luna, and his brother, Robert Luna and John Luna.

He is survived by his sons, Joe Luna, Jr. and wife Sarah, and Jason Luna; his beloved grandchildren, Corinne and Gavin Luna and Jasmine Luna; his longtime companion, Carmen Ozuna; and a large and loving family of siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family members, and others who were fortunate enough to call him “Grandpa”.

Joe’s life will be remembered through the family he cherished, the community he served, and the many lives touched by his presence. His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love shared by those who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Braunfels. A reception will be held at the church following mass.
