John Paul "Mickey" Stasey passed away on May 31, 2025, after a four and half year hard fought and courageous battle with cancer of the larynx. He was 67 years old. Mickey was the owner and optician of South Austin Optical for over thirty years, a profession he dearly loved. Known for his wild, freewheeling spirit, he never met a stranger and spent his later years sharing daily scriptures with nearly 100 friends and family members. All his children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he was especially looking forward to the birth of his new granddaughter, Amelia Claire French due in August 2025. Mickey commented shortly before his death that he was sure going to miss his little dog, Lacie.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Beth Stasey. Surviving family members at the time of his passing include: his spouse, Stasey; daughters, Holly and her husband, Cody Whisenhunt, and Bonnie Stasey. Sons, Jason and Justin French. Grandchildren, ltzhiel Ruiz, Angel, Hallie and Callie Whisenhunt, Damian Couthren, and lvy Stasey. Brother, Randy Stasey and nephews Dillon and Kendell Stasey.
