Katherine L. Jackson-Porter was born to Hugh Sherlock & Katherine Ann (Moore) Pickering on March 6, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She passed from this life on October 13, 2020 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 68.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Thomas Porter on January 18, 2018.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Porter of New Braunfels; children, Stephen Porter & wife, Sonia of New Braunfels and Christina Unszusz & husband, Steve of California; grandchildren, Abigail Porter, Alyssa Porter, Dryden Unszusz and Alek Unszusz; sister, Nancy Hastings & husband, Tom of Jacksonville, FL, brother, Hugh Pickering III of Tulsa, OK and sister, Martha Strickler & husband, Dave of Houston, TX; along with loving in-laws and cousins.
Katherine graduated from American Intercontinental University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She served many diligent years at Army and Air Force Exchange Service, where she retired in 2009. During her career Katherine traveled abroad, including three years in the United Kingdom.
Katherine was lovingly known as Kathy to most, Miss Kathy to some, and Grandma Kathy to her grandchildren. She was admired for her love, care, generosity, and intentionality. Kathy always had a passion for birdwatching. Each year Kathy homed Martins in her birdhouse, watching them faithfully from her back porch. Along with birdwatching, her passions for gardening and cooking were displayed through her labor, the love could be seen in each plant and could be tasted in each meal. Kathy also loved to travel, and she spent many years traveling with her husband, Mark. Some of her fondest travel memories were the cruises she took with her children and grandchildren. Other hobbies she enjoyed included yoga, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
Kathy will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels with Pastor Brad McLean officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Alek Unszusz, Danny Meeks, Paul Heald, Aaron Heald, Ryan Heald and Scott Porter.
