Kathleen Eichmann

July 6, 1929 - January 28, 2025

Kathleen "Kay" Evans Burket Eichmann, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2025 at the age of 95.

Kay was born on July 6, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas to Kitty and James William Evans. She attended Woodlawn Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High, and was a Lieutenant in the Purple Jackets before graduating from Brackenridge High School in 1947. After graduation, she attended Incarnate Word College and Santa Rosa School of Nursing.

On August 17, 1951, Kay married Ambrose Donald Burket of New Braunfels, a Business graduate of St. Mary's University. Upon his graduation, they moved to College Station where Kay worked in the Chemist State Laboratory on Texas A&M Campus while Ambrose earned an Engineering degree from Texas A&M University. After graduation, Kay and Ambrose moved to La Lima, Honduras for 2 years while Ambrose was employed with United Fruit Company. Kay loved living in Honduras and enjoyed sharing her many stories of life in Central America. After Honduras, they settled in New Braunfels as Ambrose began employment with US Gypsum. Kay and Ambrose were married 20 years and had two children: Mark Frederick and Teresa Kay.

Kay and Ambrose were long time members of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Kay was proud of the fact that they didn't miss one Sunday of church service in 20 years! Kay, also, taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade at Sts. Peter and Paul Elementary School for 8 years. She has fond memories of teaching with the many nuns as she was one of only a few lay teachers at that time.

In 1971, Kay began employment for the New Braunfels Utilities where she remained for 25 years, retiring as the New Construction Supervisor on February 29, 1996. She enjoyed working with the builders and contractors in town. Kay and her retired NBU co-workers always remained close friends, continuing to meet for lunch once a month up until Kay was 90 years of age.

On April 27, 1979, Kay married John Wesley Eichmann of New Braunfels. They were married 21 years until his passing in 1999. She and John were best friends and spent all of their time together. Between dating and marriage, they were together 30 years. They enjoyed cooking, working in the yard, going on road trips, dancing and traveling to Flower Bluff to fish in the ship channel with relatives.

In 2004, Kay became an active member of Oakwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed many years of fellowship and bible study with friends Theda, Iris, and Dorothy.  She also attended 6 years of BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).

Survivors include son Mark Burket and his wife Jeanette, grandsons Jason and Ryan, granddaughter Adriane, great grandchildren Ryley, Griffin, and Genna, daughter Teresa Dorrow and her husband Jeff, grandsons Nick and Luke. She was preceded in death by her twin baby girls: Karen & Alice in 1960, husband John in 1999, granddaughter Samantha in 2002 and grandson Adam in 2021.

A special heartfelt "Thank you" to Elsa Salazar, a dear friend of 40 years. Elsa's superb care, devotion, and dedication made it possible for Kay to remain comfortably in her home during her final years.

Much gratitude to Angels of Hope Care Home for their expert full time care the last 3+ years of Kay's life. Her family truly appreciates and feels indebted to Dulce, Luz, Tess and staff for their gentle care and loving patience. A true blessing!

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakwood Baptist Church (Pavilion) in New Braunfels, Texas. Burial to follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
