Kathleen
Havard
Aug 18, 1949 — Oct 3, 2023
Mary Kathleen "Kathi" HaVard né Jones left us on October 3, 2023, at the age of 74. Known to all as Kathi, she was born on August 18, 1949, in Ft. Benning, GA, to SSgt David "DR" Jones and Mary C. Jones. Along with her brother, Bill Greer.
Growing up as an Army BRAT, Kathi's life was marked by travels to various posts and bases, including stops in Monterey, California, Tampa Fl, Nuremberg, Germany, and Ft Benning Ga. She graduated high school in Augusta, GA and from there moved to Jacksonville, FL. It was there Kathi would meet the love of her life a young Sailor by the name of Bill Havard from Leakesville, Miss. They married shortly after in December of 1971 and would welcome their first son, William F. Havard Jr. (Billy), the following year in December 1972.
A brief stop in Tennessee before moving to Beeville, TX where her youngest son David was born. The family moved across the United States and overseas to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Pensacola, FL, back to Guantanamo Bay, & finally RAF Mildenhall, UK. Longing to add another child, they had attempted to adopt children from Morocco but were denied, however our Lord would send James to make her family whole. After the military they settled in New Braunfels, TX and bought their forever home.
Kathi pursued her dream of returning to college, graduating with distinction in December 2001. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of New Braunfels, finding joy in volunteering and fellowship. An avid reader, Kathi was known for her love of books and her impressive ability to read multiple books simultaneously. Kathi was a lifelong, proud, Democrat and would proudly tell you who she voted for or who in politics she did not like.
She is survived by her husband Bill Havard; sons, James & David, daughters-in-law, Julie Havard and Martee Tebow; grandchildren, Andrew, Luke, Rachel Tebow, and Hattie Catherine Havard; and brother, Bill Greer.
Kathi has now reunited with her son Billy and her parents in heaven. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation, Hope Hospice New Braunfels or SOS Food Bank Building Fund, 248 W Merriweather St, New Braunfels, Tx 78130.
Kathi's Celebration of Life will be held Saturday October 14th at First United Methodist Church New Braunfels at 1:00 P.M. Please dress casually or wear a t-shirt from one of Kathi's many church groups she loved, or any bright and bold colors.
