Kenya Cooper Beckett, born to Lee and Kathlene Cooper on January 29, 1976 in Solvang, CA, lived her final days on Earth as a proud and devoted homesteader in Rockdale Texas. She settled here with the love of her life and true companion John Beckett. Together they cherished their three shared children: Maryn (Ferguson) Mathie, Cooper Ferguson, and Ella Beckett and then joyfully added their youngest daughter, Freyja Beckett into the world.  Kenya was taken from us much too early due to a tragic auto accident on April 15, 2023.

Kenya was born and grew up in the wonderful community of Solvang, California, nestled in the Santa Ynez Valley. She attended Solvang Elementary School and then graduated with high honors from Santa Ynez Union Valley High school.  She attended BYU Idaho (then called Ricks) Earning her Associates Degree.

She met and married Tison Ferguson and moved to Charleston, South Carolina. She attended University of South Carolina and completed her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, graduating Summa Cum Laude, after which they moved to Arizona. She filled her days with the joys of motherhood. They had 2 children, moved often as Air Force brats, and eventually moved together to Universal City, Texas. Although she and Tison parted ways, she continued on as a devoted mother and supported her family as an elementary school teacher.  She worked diligently at both East Terrell Hills Elementary in San Antonio and later at Morningside Elementary after moving to New Braunfels, Texas.

Kenya was swept off of her feet and married John Beckett in 2017, and their shared life became her greatest adventure.   They were blessed with the birth of their beloved daughter Freyja in late 2018.  John and Kenya wasted no time as hand-in-hand they began carving out their Texas dream:  a wonderland of all that was special and sacred to them, and everyone could see that they lived a bountiful life of absolute joy at their farm outside of Rockdale, Texas.

Besides being a beloved wife and best friend to John, Kenya worked tirelessly and completed an additional certification as a Little River Basin Master Gardener.  She donated her time to the community as a groundskeeper for the Butterfly Gardens at the Veteran's Park in Rockdale.  She held leadership capacities in multiple Co-Op homeschooling programs and also served in the Relief Society Presidency of her Church ward family - all while juggling the demands of her beloved farm and cherishing every moment of time with John and Freyja.

Kenya is preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Lee Cooper and her brother, Garrett Ryan Cooper.

She is survived by her daughter, Maryn (Ferguson) and son-in-law, Jake Mathie, her son, Cooper Ferguson, her daughter, Freyja Beckett and step daughter, Ella Beckett; her mother, Kathlene (Clinger) Cooper; her brother, Micah Cooper, and her sisters, Tiffany Gilliland, Tielle McDonald, Mieka Flisher and Malia Shepherd and her beloved nieces and nephews, Tyler and Hailey Gilliland, Tiarra (Cooper) Shelton, Chancey Cooper, Stirling and Brontë Larson, Felix and Fiona Flisher, Aelyn and Antje Shepherd.

Our hearts will dearly miss her and all the boundless joy that she spread to all those around her.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 28, 2023

at The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,

Burial will be held later that afternoon at 1:30 PM

at St. Joseph's Cemetery ,190 Wenzel Lane, New Braunfels, TX 78132 (off FM 482)

Everyone will meet at the cemetery.
