Laurence A. "Larry" Shoemake, 84, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on June 4, 2025 in Flatonia, Texas. He was born September 26, 1940 in DeQuincy, Louisiana to Elmer and Myrtle (Nelson) Shoemake.
Larry was born and grew up in DeQuincy, Louisiana until his father passed away at 13. From there he moved to Orange, TX where he worked several jobs throughout school to help support his family. He graduated in 1959 then joined the Airforce in January of 1961 where he served in Vietnam and Guam. He left the Air Force and returned to Orange and became a Police Officer to support his mother and 2 sisters after his mother had an accident that left her unable to work. He moved to Pasadena for a short time as a Police officer where he left the force and moved back to Orange once again. There, he started a career at a cement plant and became re-acquainted with Carolyn Hooper.
Larry and Carolyn were married in March 1969, from there they grew their family with two children, Amy and Russell. In 1980 Larry moved jobs and his Family to New Braunfels, TX where they were members of First Baptist Church and Charter Member of Oakwood Church. During that time they added another child, Kayla, to the family. In 1997 he had an accident that that forced his retirement from the cement plant. He then worked odd jobs doing things he loved to support his family until he moved with Carolyn to Seguin in 2017. Through the years he coached and volunteered in many youth groups and organizations, especially his own children's. He loved fishing, hunting, wood working, and yardwork. And he always made himself available to help friends and family in any situation.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Karen Sue Anderson and Mary Ann Kennon.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn, children Amy Wilson (Fred), Russell Shoemake (Kristin) Kayla Hamilton (Patrick), grandchildren Noah Shoemake (Fiancé Samantha), Sydney Shoemake (Ethan), John Hamilton, Emma Hamilton, Liam Hamilton, Rory Hamilton, Nora Hamilton, sister Janice Lackey, as well as nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 12, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels.
