Lillian Frances Peters was born to Edna Dale Weems Peters and Ernest Sidney Peters on May 20, 1929 in New Braunfels, Tx.

Lillian married Elburn "Sonny" Kanz on March 12, 1947, after he returned from WWII. They were married at First Protestant Church and raised their children, who were baptized & confirmed in the church.  Their children would later be married in the church as young adults.

Lillian worked as a secretary in an insurance office, and then for the superintendent of NBISD. She then became the very first and ONLY driver's license clerk in New Braunfels. She had a tiny office on the third floor of the courthouse. Lillian loved this job as she got to see so many people. Young drivers would remember her as the lady that gave them their first driver's license and took those awful pictures. She retired from the Driver's License office in 1991, which at the time had two employees and one officer who came on certain days to do driving tests.

She and Sonny were very involved in organizations in New Braunfels. She was an Oma and Sonny was an Opa when Wurstfest first started in the parking lot of the NBU offices on Main Plaza. At the time it was a burned out Eiband & Fischer Department Store basement open to the skies. Many fun times were had over the years, meeting Myron Floren, dancing to polkas and waltzes, enjoying German food, and of course, wearing Lederhosen (Opas) and Dirndls which she sewed herself. They loved to dance and led many a Grand March and entered dancing contests. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and they were members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the New Braunfels Elks Club.

Lillian was a social butterfly who always wanted to be on the go. She was never one to just stay at home. She would always be dressed to the nines in beautiful clothes and jewelry, her hair was always perfect and her makeup was on every single day of her life.

After Sonny passed away in 1998, Lillian regularly picked up her sister, Mildred Koch, and the two would go to church, out to eat, and shop 'til they dropped.

Lillian made her way to heaven on July 24, 2024. She is survived by her daughters: Gayle (Curtis) Pfeiffer & Leigh Ann (Leroy) Lorenz, six grandchildren: Christina Lorenz, Lori (Jake) Gonzales, Greg Lorenz, Curtis J (Erica) Pfeiffer, Laci (Brian) Webber, and Kristopher Pfeiffer.

Fourteen Great Grandchildren: Nakita, Reyna, and Caidyn Block, Grace, Cadence, and Cecilia Webber, Connor Pfeiffer, Myles Brome, Kaitlyn Williams, Addison and Preston Quintanilla, and Dylan, Tyler, and Parker Gonzales.

She is also survived by one sister-in-law: Alyce Kanz and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elburn "Sonny" Kanz; her parents, Ernest Sidney Peters and Edna Dale Peters; two brothers, James "Skeeter" Peters, Bill Peters; and five sisters, Alice Moos, Grace McBride, Ruth Cowles, Mildred Koch and Katy Motycka.

Lillian lived out her last years at Brookdale Assisted Living in New Braunfels. A very special thanks to the loving Brookdale staff who took excellent care of Lillian and loved her dearly. She always felt like she was home in their care. They were awesome and went above and beyond helping Lillian live her best life.

The family would like to also thank Magnolia Hospice for caring for Lillian and keeping her comfortable in her last weeks.

Family Visitation will be Monday, July 29 from 5-7 p.m. with services being held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to First Protestant Church, Magnolia Hospice, American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
