Louis William Sedlar, 82, of New Braunfels, Texas passed away on May 11, 2024, in New Braunfels. He was born April 21, 1942, at the Comal Sanitarium to Louis Frank and Bessie (Brosch) Sedlar.

Louis grew up in Sattler, near Canyon Dam. Louis was one of the first children to be diagnosed with polio in Comal County. At a young age, he was sent to live at Warm Springs in Gonzales for therapy, and he was able to survive polio and walk again.  Growing up he loved hunting and exploring the woods around the Sattler area. He loved softball and played for the Dam Team.  Louis graduated from Canyon High School in 1961 and Lewis Barber College in 1962.  After graduating Barber College, he worked in Seguin for several years and then eventually established his own business, Landa Plaza Barber Shop in New Braunfels. He operated that business until his retirement. Many wonderful years were spent there. He and his buddies would always meet for coffee at Landa Pharmacy. As a teenager, he became interested in pigeon racing and continued that throughout much of his life. Most weekends were spent with pigeon races and waiting for those birds to fly home.

Set up through mutual friends, on a blind date at Gruene Hall, he met Lynnell Kneupper. They married June 8, 1963, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, Texas and were married for 49 years until her death in 2013. Later in life, he met Lois Voigt. They spent many happy years together with a mutual appreciation of family and religion.

His life centered around family and food! His Czech heritage was important, and he loved gathering with family for birthdays, reunions, and listening to polka music. Spending time with his grandchildren was an ultimate joy. He would build them things and teach them about the outdoors and animals.

He is survived by his daughters, Lori Jones (Jeff Eiler) and Lana Sedlar, grandchildren; Julian Jones and Penelope Jones (Will Seymour), sister, Josephine Dougherty, partner and friend, Lois Voigt and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, his baby brother, Eugene, his brother-in-law Larry Dougherty, his nephew Harry Dougherty, and his sister-in-law Susan Kneupper.

A rosary service will be held at 6:00pm on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-6:00pm prior to the service. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. A graveside service will follow at 1:00pm at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.
