In Loving Memory of Lt Col Ben Errol Moberley

1941 – 2024

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Lt Col Ben Errol Moberley who took his last breath on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the age of 83.

Ben will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Scott (Mary) and Eric (Emily), and his four grandchildren: Sarah, Andrew, Lottie, and Vivian. He is also survived by several family members and countless friends, all of whom were touched by his warmth and kindness.

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in 1941, Ben grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, where, at the age of 13, he met the eventual love of his life, Christine, who was just 11 years old at the time. At the age of 21, he married Christine, beginning a beautiful and fulfilling life journey that spanned more than six decades. Together, they built a legacy of unwavering faith, devotion to family, and cherished friendships that lasted throughout Ben's life.

Ben graduated from the University of Texas in 1963, and in 1966, he received a "nice" letter from the government requesting his presence for the draft. He then went on to spend 26 years in the army and traveled to many different locations around the globe including Maryland, Indiana, Virginia, Texas, Alabama, Panama, and a tour in Vietnam. Upon retirement from the army, he became a civilian contractor for approximately 15 years at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).

In 2007, Ben and Christine move to Canyon Lake, Texas to retire. It was here that they found their faith family at First Baptist Church. They were very involved with the church, vacation bible school, and bible study, among many other organizations. Ben belonged to the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief organization where he organized and operated the chainsaw unit and later served as the TBM Chainsaw Coordinator for all of Texas.

Ben was a man of deep Christian faith, and his spirituality was a guiding light in his life. His commitment to his faith, his family, and his community was evident to all who knew him. He was beloved by many for his generosity, his warm-hearted nature, and his ability to make others feel valued.

Ben's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Army Residential Community Chapel in San Antonio.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on January 6, 2025, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
