Obituary

Mark Anthony Porter, born on July 2, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, to Weldon Durett and Helen Oleta Porter, passed away on August 16, 2023, surrounded by family. He is survived by his son, Stephen, and wife, Sonia Porter, along with their children Abigail Lauren and Alyssa Danielle Porter; his daughter, Christina Porter, and her children Dryden A. and Alek C. Unszusz; his sister René Heald and husband Paul, their children Aaron and Ryan, as well as his brother Scott Porter and wife Lori, and their children Hannah and Hayden, and lifelong friend Daniel Meeks. Preceding Mark in death are his parents, his loving wife Katherine Jackson-Porter, and grandson Thomas Stephen Porter.

Mark's formative years in South Oak Cliff, Texas, were filled with joyful summers, marked by baseball, hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing, and hauling hay for his uncle. He proudly graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1968, continuing his education at North Texas State University. His career with the U.S. Postal Service, which began in 1972 as a letter carrier, saw him retire in 2005 from the Bulk Mail Center, where he held a significant role in the transportation department.

Retirement introduced a new chapter for Mark, one filled with car trips, RVing, cruise ships, yard work, and the warmth of family and friends. Notably, holidays were treasured moments, enriched by the presence of those he loved most. Mark's quick wit and comical comebacks brought laughter to many, making him a truly unique soul. He always encouraged those around him through his positive outlook on life. His absence leaves a void in our heart, but the memories of his kind and thoughtful spirit and love will forever shine through.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 25, 2023, from 10:00 am till service at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home with burial to follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
