Mark Thane Whittaker, 68, of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed away on November 21, 2023 at his home in Canyon Lake. He was born November 14, 1955 in Houston, Texas to Glenn and Floris (Thane) Whittaker. He is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Jean (Bilski) Whittaker. He is survived by his sons, Bryant Justin and wife Valerie Anne, and Aric Thane and wife Rachel Elizabeth, grandson Sawyer Thane.
Mark was born in Houston, Texas, and lived many places as he was growing up. He was particularly fond of his time spent in Fairbanks, Alaska where he developed a love for smoked salmon and the beauty of snow. He was the oldest of six siblings who he loved, provided for, and guided in his role as the oldest sibling. After marrying BJ Bilski on October 30, 1976, Mark moved to Houston with his wife and began his long and successful career with Stewart and Stevenson. The couple later moved to Humble, Texas where they raised their two boys Bryant and Aric. He was a dedicated father and husband who contributed to his community as a volunteer firefighter in Humble, Texas. In 2005 Mark and BJ built their dream house in Canyon Lake, Texas where they enjoyed a quiet life of hosting family and watching all the various wildlife that visited their property. In addition to enjoying nature, Mark also had a passion for writing opinion pieces and poetry.
A celebration of life will be held on January 13, 2024at Mark and BJ's home, hosted by Bryant, Valerie, Aric, and Rachel. You are welcome to bring a dessert, side dish, drink, or appetizer if you are attending the celebration of life.
