Our vivacious, beautiful mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend Mary Lou Ohlrich was born on April 5, 1936, in the farming community of Kingsbury, Texas, in Guadalupe County to Ellen and Bruno Glenewinkel.  Her mother worked on the farm and her father was a bookkeeper.  Mary Lou had two half-brothers, Lynwood and Stanley Weiss, with whom she had a life-long relationship until their deaths.

Mary Lou only spoke German when she started school in Kingsbury and would finish her education in Seguin.  Her parents would unfortunately divorce, and Ellen moved with Mary Lou to Seguin where she was a waitress at Joe's Café.  Ellen would later marry Theodore "Knott" Kunkel who owned Kunkel and Cannon Television and Repair shop a few doors down from Joe's.  Mary Lou loved her stepfather who doted on her and would later dote on her two daughters, Teresa and Debbie.  Mary Lou graduated from Seguin High School in 1954 and was a proud Matador and member of the Delicados, a group of girlfriends who were still lunching together monthly until last year.

Mary Lou would meet and fall in love with a handsome New Braunfels boy, Bobby Ohlrich.  Although the couple went over mountains and through valleys, they were married 54 years at the time of Bobby's death in 2010.

In 1963, Bobby and Mary Lou moved from Seguin to New Braunfels.  Mary Lou began working at Randolph Air Force Base and Bobby's mother, Wallie, was enlisted to help with care of the girls.  She worked at Randolph for 23 years as an administrative assistant with exemplary reviews until her retirement in 1986.

Throughout her life, Mary Lou was full of life and just plain fun.  She and Bobby had great friends with whom they spent many happy years fishing at the coast, spending weekends at hunting camp, playing cards, and taking trips to Mexico.  Although she outlived most of her dearest friends, her home was full of reminders of their exploits and adventures.

Mary Lou Ohlrich passed away early in the morning on Monday, September 30th.  She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Johnson (Rob) and Debbie Ohlrich.  She has four beloved grandchildren, Katie Rooney (Mark), Haley Melville (Ben), Jake Johnson, and Ross Johnson.  She was the proud great-grandmother to Riley and Cameron Rooney.  Mary Lou is also survived by her brother-in-law Jack Ohlrich, niece Toya Ohlrich Boyer and her family, and nieces Shirley Peters and Mary Lynn Philip and families.

A gravesite celebration of Mary Lou Ohlrich and her life will be held on Saturday, October 5th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Smithson Valley Cemetery on FM 311.
