Obituary

Mary Ann Ragland, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, wrapped in love and prayer, on December 9, 2025. She was born on October 25, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee, and lived a life filled with faith, family, laughter, and love.

Mary Ann married Cooper in 1956 and spent most of her younger years raising her children. They made several moves around the country, before eventually landing in San Antonio, where she worked as the Library Assistant at Encino Park Elementary. Throughout her time there, her warm smile and gentle presence touched countless children and staff members. In 1995, they moved to Canyon Lake, where she continued to surround herself with the people and activities she cherished most.

Mary Ann loved to dance, garden, and spend time with her family. She enjoyed tending to her plants, gathering with her bridge group and birthday club, and was an active and dedicated member of her church, First Baptist Church of Canyon Lake. Her joyful spirit, kindness, and grace left an impression on everyone blessed to know her.

She is survived by her loving husband: Roland Cooper Ragland; her children: Ron Ragland (Jonnie), Cindy Kappel (Michael), and January Ragland-Goette; her sisters: Betty Joe Baltz and Caroline Dennis; her grandchildren: Leslie Rogers, Amy Payne, Cassandra Netting, Samantha Kappel, Taylor Smith, Cashus Goette, and Tearnie Jones; and her great-grandchildren: Rory, Stevie, Miles, Nora, Joel, Mille Clair, and Cooper—all of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her beloved children Joe Edward Ragland and Cissy Payne.

In honor of Mary Ann's giving heart, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Mary Ann will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family and all who knew her.
