Michael Neil Summers, "Mike," was born to Murrell Ned Summers, Jr. and Phyllis Lee (Hansen) Summers on June 21, 1953 in El Paso, Texas.  He passed from this life surrounded by his family on September 4, 2022 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 69.

He was preceded in death by his father, Murrell Ned Summers, Jr.; grandson, Michael Neil Summers III and other beloved family members.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan L. Summers of New Braunfels; mother, Phyllis Force & step-father, David of El Paso; children, Tessa N. Grant & husband, Chris of Dripping Springs, Michael N. Summers, Jr., Matthew N. Summers & wife, Stephanie, Jacquelyn L. Campbell & husband, Cory and Justin D. Summers, all of New Braunfels; siblings, Debby Cranford & husband, Lloyd and Murrell Summers III & wife, Becky; grandchildren, Jaida & Briar Nichols, Hannah, Connor, & Will Grant, Evalyn Summers, Marrek & Saylor Summers, Cash, Case & Finley Campbell and numerous other relatives and dear friends.

As a child, Mike loved football and played in youth league where his team, the Golden Eagles, were the first team from Texas to win state and travel to the Championship game in California in 1963.

He was a graduate of Yselta High School in El Paso where he also played football and was a member of the FFA raising rabbits and sheep.

After graduation, Mike attended electrician school in Dallas. He received his certification and then returned to El Paso where he began working for Mountain Bell telephone company, where his mother and father had once worked as newlyweds. Mike soon made a career change, working for his future father-in-law at W.S. Davenport Inc. in steel construction. After moving to San Antonio in the early 1980s, he and his father-in-law started their own company, San Antonio Erectors. Mike was a gifted iron worker and in all aspects of steel construction. He was a certified crane operator, certified welder, welding and ironworking instructor, and eventually a project manager for Moore Erection where he spent the final years of his career before retirement.

In his early years, Mike developed a passion for riding motorcycles and would cruise around on his Harley Sportster with his brothers-in-law Brad or Lloyd. An avid fan of John Wayne, Mike was always a cowboy at heart. He loved to ride horses, shoot guns, care for livestock, hunt and fish, ride his tractor, and to teach his children and grandchildren the same. He could grill fajitas, BBQ, and make boracho beans like nobody's business.

In his later years, Mike more often went by "Poppy '' for his 11 grandchildren. He spent much of his time showing up for them at their various sporting events and activities, coaching them up and cheering them on with his signature whistle. He never missed a birthday party. He always came to see them in their costumes on Halloween, although we do suspect the opportunity to convince them to share their Hershey's and Whoppers was part of his motivation, we know he enjoyed watching them have fun. One of his favorite things to do was to sit out on the porch or on the swing under the tree and watch his grandkids run around in the yard.

Mike and Susan have been members of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio where they began attending after his company completed the steel construction on the church and have remained members for over 35 years.

Mike was always a protector, a teacher, quick to play a joke, ready to help others, a generous giver, sentimental, loving, and fun. Our "Denim Dad" wore Wrangler denim work shirts and jeans every day, even on the beach. Lastly, we would be dishonoring his sense of humor if we didn't inform you that he'd want everyone to know he will definitely not be voting Democrat in this upcoming fall elections or in 2024.

Shortly before his recent illness, Mike had a dream he was able to review the construction plans and give input on a student housing project for Charis Bible College in Woodland Park, CO. In this dream, he asked how much money was still needed to complete the project and, when told, he wrote a check for the full amount. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Andrew Wommack Ministries' Foundation Builders Fund to help make his dream come true.

His Celebration of Life will be held by his family at their home in New Braunfels Saturday, September 10th, 2022.
