Micheal Rae Dyste was born on June 6, 1950 to Carl B Jr and Beverly Dyste. He left this earth on February 4, 2026.

Mike grew up in Churchs Ferry, North Dakota, where he was in many activities including 4H and basketball. He graduated from high school in 1968. After high school Mike went on to attend college at the University of North Dakota, where he was a member of the basketball team.

He joined the Army National Guard in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1976.

Mike was married to LaVonne Pecka in July of 1974, and became "Dad" to Alissa in 1976, Shannon in 1977, and Katrina in 1983.

His careers consisted of entrepreneurship in The Crossroads- a full service gas station & restaurant, and Little Churchill Adventures - fly-in fishing lodges in Canada.  He also owned a travel agency and bulk mailing business.

Over the years he held employment as a school bus driver, a basketball coach, and finally a drug and alcohol counselor at Kyle Correctional Facility. To say he was a "mover and a shaker" would be an understatement.

In 2002, Mike became a grandpa, and from then forward was known to many as "Pop". He spent his time cheering for, laughing with, and listening to stories told by his 8 grandchildren, one granddaughter in law, and many friends of grandkids, some of whom he called "grandfriends". His impact on all young people was enormous. He had a way of making anyone in his presence feel special.

Mike had so many adventures and stories to go with them… many including his younger years with his best friend Michael Rohrer, his years as a pilot - flying his private planes, playing basketball, time in his fraternity, skiing, fishing, and spending time with his family and coworkers. His hobbies were expansive and stretched from playing guitar to pouring concrete and tiling (he loved manual labor).

Michael, ("Mick", "Mike", "Dyste" "Dad," "Pop") will be forever missed by those who survive him:  Daughters, Shannon Holt and Katrina Oldham, sons-in-law Eric Holt and David Oldham;  Grandkids Morgan and Avery Holt, Addison, Gavin, and Isabella Holt, Mila Oldham, Harmony Dyste, and Weston and Collin Oldham;  Sisters Debbie Dyste (Wayne) and Jan Flaniken (Steve);  many nieces, nephews, and cousins;  The love of his life, LaVonne, and so very many friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Alissa Dyste, parents Carl and Bev Dyste, and nephew Wes Gibbens.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Hill Country Memorial Gardens in New Braunfels, Texas.
