Nancy Ann Calhoon-Olesen, born October 31, 1956, in San Diego, California, passed away at the age of 69 on March 7, 2026, at her home in New Braunfels, Texas. She was born to Edward and Dorothea Olesen and the third of four children.

She is survived by her husband, David Calhoon; her two children and their spouses, Jami and Tyler Dunkleberger, Erick and Danielle Calhoon-Olesen; and her two grandchildren, Lyla and Jett Dunkleberger.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings James, Stephan, and Edward Jr.

Nancy was of Scandinavian heritage, primarily Danish, and was proud of her family's roots that traced back to seafaring Vikings. Growing up in California, she developed an early love for the water. She was a member of her school swim team and participated in offshore rough water swimming.

She later moved to Nassau in the Bahamas, where she lived an adventurous life working on boats and in catering. During this time, she pursued her passions for scuba diving, deep-sea diving to depths up to 90 meters, and spearfishing. Her time there also sparked a lifelong love for seafood and sourcing food directly from the sea. She moved to Texas in 1989 with her husband and children. She was married at the Enchanted Floral Gardens of Kula in Maui, Hawaii.

In Texas, Nancy devoted herself to her family as a loyal and loving homemaker and mother. She remained a swimmer and adventurer, and alongside her husband, she became a world champion winning miner, mining gemstones together in competition. Later, she built a successful career and business sourcing and dealing in antiques, art, and jewelry, where she was known as a determined negotiator.

Nancy loved cutting edge cooking and prepared meals for her family nearly every day of her life. She also found great joy in her pets, nature, tending her plants and garden while planning the next meal. She was a true individual—strong-willed and opinionated, yet deeply generous and kind-hearted. She always thought of others and did what she could to care for and provide for people, especially during difficult times.

A public visitation will be held at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home, 189 N. Seguin Ave., New Braunfels, Texas 78130, at 12:00 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2026, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at the same location. After the service, she will be cremated, with some of her ashes to be spread in the sea she loved.
