Obituary

Neil Edward Cunningham, 80, of New Braunfels, Texas passed away on January 11, 2022, in New Braunfels.  He was born January 5, 1942, in West Virginia.

Neil was preceded in death by his wife, Mary "Tinker" Cunningham.  He is survived by his stepdaughters, Melissa Christon and husband, Michael (Dallas, TX) and Heather Caldwell and husband, Glenn (Meridian, MS); grandchildren, Cameron Christon, Kaylin Christon, Peyton Caldwell, and Zoey Claire Caldwell.

Neil was raised in "West, by God, Virginia", as he was known for proudly asserting. He served active duty overseas, in the United States Marine Corps for four years and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.  Neil remained in the Marine Corps Reserve for two more years before moving to New Braunfels, Texas in the early 1980s.  He went to work for Browning Construction and retired after over 20 years of hard work.  We can't leave out the fact that Neil was an avid barbecue cook-off fan and participated in multiple competitions, submitting his barbecue and his famous bean recipes.  He also loved to be outdoors and had the drive and talent as a skilled carpenter.  Neil was very devoted to his friends and family, but he was most proud of his status as "Papa Neil" to his grandchildren.  Neil will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
